Nadia and Sylvain, a couple with a passion for renovation, fell in love with an old
joinery workshop dating from the 1900s. The building, located behind a small brick building, has a structure typical of the second industrial revolution, with a metal framework. They decided to transform it into a
vast loft for themselves and their family, while preserving the original architectural elements, such as the exposed wooden and riveted iron trusses.
The main challenge of the transformation was to
bring enough natural light into the loft, which was an enclosed space with no side openings and
only roof light. The couple therefore decided to create an interior courtyard, inspired by the architecture of Roman houses, to reconnect their home with the natural elements and
introduce daylight into the heart of the building.
To maximise sunlight, Nadia and Sylvain opted to install
Espaciel solar reflectors. These innovative devices, placed around the interior courtyard,
redirect the sun's rays towards the darker areas of the loft.
The Patio reflectors capture sunlight and project it towards the wall-mounted reflectors, which diffuse this natural light down to the ground floor, where the main living areas are located.
Thanks to this solution, even remote areas of the roof and courtyard are bathed in light,
providing optimum comfort even on overcast days. Nadia and Sylvain's project is a perfect illustration of the effectiveness of
green technologies for daylighting in the home, highlighting the use of
Espaciel reflectors in the renovation of historic buildings.
